Romantic Comedy Genre Analysis-Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008)

Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging is a film directed by Gurinder Chadha based on books by English author Louise Rennison who wrote the book series Confessions of Georgia Nicolson. They are based around the central protagonist Georgia Nicolson.

Mise-en-Scene: The costumes that are worn by the girls are 'fancy' telling the audience straightaway there is a fancy dress party. They are mostly 'casual' wear telling the audience the type of clothing worn in England. This shows the film is low budgeted. The girls are wearing 'typical' costumes that girls wear to a parties, such as the angels, 'devils', cats costumes. There are not many props used in the film opening except for the costumes worn by the characters. The car is used to travel the character to the party. The car shows that the main character is not 'rich' but lives a comfortable life as her parents can afford a 'luxury' of a car. High key lighting is used showing the happy atmosphere and ambiance to the audience.

Camera Shots: In this opening sequence there was loads of shots related to mise-en-scene showing what the protagonist was wearing, especially close ups and long shots. Also there was quite a few point of view shots from the protagonists prospective when entering the room full of all her `friends`. Also there is a medium shot on the popular girl when everyone laughs at the protagonists choice of costume.

Editing: The opening is mainly uses straight cuts between shots keeping the continuity of the shots while not disrupting the action the plot.

Sound: The soundtrack used is 'She's So Lovely' by Scouting for Girls. The soundtrack is a fast track however fluffy and has a bright tone to it straightaway telling the audience it is an romantic comedy. There is dialogue used in the opening sequence however the soundtrack continues to play in the background.
